Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert 'Mutt' Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage

Canadian country-pop singer Shania Twain has broken her silence over her split from husband Robert “Mutt” Lange.

In a statement to her “beloved fans” posted on her Web site, the country superstar said she now needs time to heal her “broken heart.” "As I am sure you have seen or heard; I am going through a rough time personally in my life," People quoted her, as stating on the website.

"I wanted you all to know that I could not be getting through this without you. Your letters, emails and words of encouragement give me strength. A spokesperson for Shania confirmed in May that the couple was splitting after 14 years of marriage.

Sources “close to the situation” claim that Lange was involved with a woman named Marie-Ann Thiebaud, a long-time secretary and manager of the couple’s chateau in Switzerland.
